Winter is coming - 10 tips to help you get ready for the colder months

Ah, a Game of Thrones reference never hurts, does it? No!
But in all seriousness, winter is coming - albeit a tad slow.
However, here in Denmark Fall has finally made an appearance. Fall is my absolute favourite season; in my opinion there's nothing more beautiful or life affirming than a gorgeous Fall day - you know, where it's crisp out but the sun is still shining, the leaves have a beautiful shade of orange and you can finally snuggle up in your favourite coat, scarf and beanie.
Another great thing about Fall is that it get's darker out - now, most people don't like that but to them I say: use it to your advantage! That's why I've gathered these 10 tips for you to get cozy and enjoy the weather change and a new season - these tips will, most definitely, get you through the colder months . . . because winter is coming (( dum dum duuuuuum, haha )).

1. Acknowledge that Summer's over and it's time for a new season
- once you do, you'll start to see that even though the sun might not
be shining as much anymore, there's still lots of beauty to be found.

2. Use the light - or more likely, the lack of light
- there's no denying that is is getting both colder and darker out.
But that may not be a bad thing; if you invest in some light chains
(( no, they're not just for Christmas )) and hang them around in your apartment,
you'll really get a cozy feel to the place. You don't even have to turn them off at daytime;
a grey and rainy day can get a lot more happy with some twinkly lights.

3. Treat yourself
- so you feel a little down? The rain messed up your pretty hair-do and the weekend's far away?
Woman ((or man)) - treat yourself! Magazines may be a bit expensive, but maybe just one mag a month - or even an old one - can instantly make you feel that coziness. Have a glass of wine, take your time, read the articles and get inspired. Either save it for the weekend or have a mid-week break on a Wednesday evening - it doesn't matter, as long as it makes you feel good and happy.

4. Cozy knits
- it's a little crisp out and you feel kinda cold. Most of us do not have a fireplace (( although, who can honestly say that they don't want one? )) so we have to get warm another way. Occam's Razor suggest that you put on a cozy knit. Why not put on some woollen socks and a huge scarf as well? There's nothing more cozy than snuggling up on the couch, feeling warm in a knit and . . .

5. Have a cuppa tea
- Nothing beats gearing down after a long day than with a huge cuppa tea. I suggest you drink Yogi Tea - you'll get the most amazing flavours and some inspiring words of wisdom on the tea tag.

6. Make the most out of sunny days
- So the sun has finally decided to make an appearance and you should enjoy it! Go for a walk or open your windows wide; get some of that clean and crisp air in your lungs - and your home. Clean the house or just sit back
- either way, when the sun's finally shining,
you should do whatever you can to soak it in!

7. Pick some apples
- Fall is the absolute best season to get apples, why? Because you can pick them yourself!
There's nothing like having a bowl with fresh and clean apples, but if you pick them yourself (( perhaps with someone you love? )) you'll not only have the delicious apple treats but also a life long Fall memory.

8. Pick some flowers
- if you're already picking apples then why not pick some flowers too?
The side of the road may not be overflowing with flowers anymore, but there's still some left which you can pick.
Remember to cut them at the ends and give them fresh water every day.

9. Enjoy the evenings
- even though it may be a boring old Tuesday evening doesn't mean that you can enjoy yourself.
A good movie, a glass of wine and a cozy blanket goes a long way to make you feel happy and relaxed - even on a Tuesday evening. If you're stressed for time then get everything ready for tomorrow, start the movie early, eat dinner in front of the telly and just relax and enjoy your life.

(( and of course ))
10. Candles, candles, candles!
- there's nothing like candles; they give off warmth, give your place a cozy and warm glow and, of course, they're just so darn lovely! However you like 1 candle or 10, tea candles or taper candles, nobody can deny that the colder months are made for cozy candlelit evenings.

○ Enjoy!

InstaSeptember

Hiyah all!
Well, well, well . . . That was September - and what a month it was!
My very first month at university and it's been an absolute blast !
September was also the month where I celebrated my 25th birthday - yauwza, that was a rough corner  ((haha)).
And finally, September was the setting of the RUC Ã…rsfest - the annual party at university. It was an awesome party and I had so much fun!

But alas, university takes up a lot of my time at the moment, and therefore f&f has been put in the background for a while.
I'll try to update when I have the time.
In the meantime, enjoy these Insta pictures from September . . .

Romantic bathroom with old school touches

Hello lovelies!

As I was at a huge party at university yesterday ((the RUC Ã…rsfest as it is called)) I'm pretty tired today. But I wouldn't wanna cheat you out of a weekend post, so here's a lovely bathroom for you today:
A bathroom in Skåne - how lovely is this?!
My own bathroom is very very very small, but had I only the space, I think I would definitely go for something like this.
I don't know exactly what it is, but this wonderful bathroom reminds me very much of Ny Carslberg Glyptotek in Copenhagen (Google it if you're curious).

Have a wonderful day - I'm going to go and dream of having my own bathtub now

Rainy Sunday Tunes

Hello to one, hello to all!

It's raining in Roskilde . . . and raining, and raining, and raining.
It's the sort of day made for a cuppa tea, candles and soft tunes.
All of my homework is done . . . well okay, most of it anyway, and now I'm spending this
soft Sunday cleaning and listening to lovely tunes.
Will you share them, you say? Yes, indeed I will!

Small words of wisdom:

Birthday Vlog

Today I turn 25 - happy birthday to me ((haha)).
I ain't gonna lie to you; it's a little scary that I'm only five years from turning 30 - which is my "scary age" ... yikes!
But in a moment of self-celebration of me turning older and wiser, I thought I'd do a little something different.
Everyone has expectations - both from life and them selves. I'm no different! When I was fifteen, I thought that my mid-twenties would be razzle dazzle fantastic, and basically that I would live the life of a heroin in a chick flick movie ... oh, how different things turned out, haha.
So here's my vlog of 5 things my fifteen year old self thought I'd be, do or have when I was 25 - enjoy!

Side note:
The video is way longer than I intended it to be
and by the end I'm totally talking out of my ass ((so charming, I know))
but all in all I really enjoyed doing this.
If you liked it too and want to see more vlogs,
then tell me in the comments or via the Facebook page :)

Homemade toothpaste - the healthy way of taking care of your teeth

Hello all - how's it hanging?

Today I have a great post for you!
I'm gonna tell you how to make your own toothpaste using just 2 (if you want, 3) ingredients.
As many of you know I love anything homemade which also takes care of our environment. So when I found this recipe for homemade toothpaste I was instantaneously curious.
For the last two weeks I've been trying a method called "Coconut Oil Pulling" - this means that every night after you've brushed your teeth, you take a spoonful of coconut oil in your mouth and swish it around for 15 to 20 minutes. After a week I saw improvements; my teeth were already whiter and felt a lot cleaner. However, 15 minutes is a long time, and many nights I forgot and had to stay up an extra 15 minutes to do it - which meant loosing 15 precious minutes of sleep.
That was when I found this recipe for homemade coconut oil toothpaste - it works just as great and doesn't take quite as long.

First of all, let me tell you a little about store-bought toothpaste:
Store-bought toothpaste - although advertised as the best product to keep your mouth hygiene up to speed - is not the best way to take care of your precious choppers.
In fact, store-bought toothpaste contains Sodium Fluoride which has a negative effect on your bones and teeth and furthermore, in store-bought toothpastes, you'll also get Glycerin. Glycerin coats your teeth in such a way that they don't obtain the nutrients they need - in fact, one single coating of Glycerine will take 30 brushings to remove.
Scared? I was!

So I tried this simple recipe for making my own healthy toothpaste.
All you need are these 3 ingredients:

  1. Coconut oil (( can be bought in most grocery stores or health stores ))
  2. Sodium Bicarbonate (( can be bought in every grocery store next to the baking supplies ))
  3. (( OPTIONAL )) Minty oil (( can be bought a health stores or the pharmacy ))
All you do is pour 4-5 tablespoons of coconut oil in a glass jar container, add 6-7 teaspoons of the Sodium Bicarbonate and then 30-40 drops of the minty oil. Mix it all together and voilá - you're done!
The minty oil is optional, but it does add a nice flavour to the mix. However, I don't use it - as I forgot to buy it - and the mix does not at all taste bad.
After a week or two you will notice your teeth are getting whiter and your mouth feels cleaner, that you don't need to go to the dentist as much and that your cavities (( if you have any )) don't hurt as bad. This is just a huge bonus - there's nothing to fear; just enjoy it!

Have fun and remember to show off that dazzling smile!

Side note:
Tomorrow's my birthday
and I have a fun and different kind of post for you then
- so remember to check back tomorrow :)

InstaAugust

Hi y'all and happy Sunday to you!
Well, August went by in a blur! Home, Sweden and start up at university have made my month very eventful.
That transpires in my Insta account, where I'm fairly more active than I am here at f&f at the moment.
Speaking of Instagram, I've tried to "up my game" lately and mostly post interior shots from my home
- that, combined with hashtags (( which I normally hate but now have come to love )) has paid off!
So if you miss me - as I am sure you do (( haha )) - you can always find me over at Instagram.

DIY: Polkadot Wall

Hi guys!
Since I'm a little too tired to take pictures and sit down and write a post about them today, I thought I'd share this cool DIY instead:

This fantastic DIY comes from Maiju over at My 2Hand Life.
Why not try it for yourself? I would do it, but unfortunately my walls
are already covered in pictures, cuttings, postcards and light chains. Oh well, maybe next time, yeah?

Have a wonderful day

Life Lately. Update: First week at University

Hiyah all!
Well, it's been a little while since last and there's a good reason for that.
You see, last Monday I started at University - Roskilde University Center or "RUC" as we call it (( I know, I feel so fancy calling myself a "RUCer" haha )) and it's just been a blast.
Although term starts on September 1st, this week and next week is the so called "Rus period" which means that all the newcomers or "Ruslings" as we are called, get to know the facilities around campus. We also do a lot of social activities so that we can get to know each other. There are about 130 people in my class, and so far I haven't even talked to half of them, haha.
But the people are awesome; everybody's so nice and positive and very open to meet new people.

However, it is exhausting! Everyday we have activities from 9 - 4 and then we have the option to stay afterwards and maybe grab a beer and just hang out. But since I'm still getting over my cold from last week, I have't really been staying after 4. I even had to stay home Wednesday and yesterday, Friday, because I'm still trying to bounce back from my cold. It sucks staying home, but I really wanna get well again.
You see, next Wednesday we have our "Rus trip"; from Wednesday to Saturday we'll all be going to Lolland and staying in an old camp spot. It's gonna be really fun, so I hope I can bounce back from my cold and be ready for a new and exiting week.

But yeah, since Uni is already taking up a lot of my time, my intention with this post was actually to inform you that f&f might go back to be kinda quiet for a while - at least until I settle into some every-day routines and habits for this new adventure.
But yeah, I'll try to update as much as I can, so just hang on and check the Facebook page for updates.

Otherwise I hope y'all had a great Summer and are enjoying this early Fall we've been having.
See you when I see you!
PS: If you miss me ((haha)) I'm still very active over at Instagram, where I post a lot of interior pictures from my home - so if you miss that, then head over and find me under the name NATMADELEINE

The first and only picture I've managed to take this week at University.
This was our first every lecture, and even though we were sitting in the "Small Auditorium"
and there was no space to move at all, it was still a really fun and interesting experience!
